Bike Tour
Cycling is a popular activity in Korea and there are many ways people take part. Cyclists join clubs and go on long excursions on the weekends and some others are more casual riders. You’ll see a lot of people on rental bikes at parks and in quiet neighborhoods. At these places, couples can often be seen on tandem bikes on dates. There aren’t many bike commuters however, as the roads are crowded during rush hour.
Public and private bike-sharing systems can be found in all major cities.
One of the most popular long-distance routes is the 640km trip from Seoul to Busan.
In Seoul, the parks along the Han River are ideal for bike outings. Bike paths run between the parks and you can stop for a picnic. The more adventurous can even bike 20km beyond the city to the coast.
Korea has a network of cycle roads that runs throughout the country. These roads take you through beautiful rural landscapes between towns and cities. As the network is easily accessible via public transport, many people from the city take advantage of them on their days off.
A popular trip among cyclists is the 640 km ride from Seoul to Busan. At an easygoing pace, it takes around 9 days and many choose to join a guided tour so they can focus on cycling and taking in the sights.
There are many destinations well suited for renting bikes for casual riding. At Gyeongju, rental bikes are quite popular with tourists. The city was the capital of the ancient Silla Kingdom and is nicknamed a “museum without walls.” The historic sites are scattered around the city, so many visitors rent bikes to tour the heritage sites and pedal along the rice fields.
The cycle road that loops all the way around Jeju island is a big draw for cyclists. It’s a fantastic way to see the coastal and inland sights that dot the island of Jeju. Biking short stretches is a great day activity and some dedicated cyclists spend several days cycling the entire loop.
